Between 1978 and 1988 I was a Christian, of the evangelical, fundamentalist and dispensational variety - and for a while thereafter I at least retained my evangelical views and life-stance. For an explanation of this as far as doctrinal statements go, please see the declaration of faith, which I was largely responsible for drawing up, on the Open Bible Trust (OBT) Web-site. |

Well, in 1984, I and a group of friends set up the above-mentioned OBT as a registered charity and became its founder Trustees. During the period up to late 1988, when I resigned as a Trustee, I wrote a number of articles (mostly book reviews) for the OBT magazine Search, in addition to a couple of Bible Study Booklets. I've been rummaging through my archives to find this material which I think is a useful resource personally to remind me of my roots and also to shed light on my current ideas. I also think these writings are good examples of their genre and may still be of interest to some people. Hard copies of the booklets are still available from the OBT. The article that sparked off my resignation was my less than damning review of, coupled with the ensuing public outrage over, Escaping from Fundamentalism by James Barr. |

Here are the booklets and articles. You will probably find the language an odd hybrid, but I hope you will also see (at least within the contextual belief system) the intellectual rigour I like to think my writings possess, albeit laced with the language of a rather archaic devotionalism. I would like to think that this was not insincere. | ![]() |
