Most face to face discussions in philosophy have a basis in a piece of written work.
(i) their objective then can be to consider whether certain specifiable (because written down) claims are true.
(ii) insofar as the discussion is focused on something existing, it can be relatively easy to take something away from it without a precise recollection of particular exchanges.
(iii) If each discussion is based on a different piece of work, the discussions shouldn't be the same over and over again.
