Introduction
- When Book One of THE NEW RECORDER TUTOR by Stephen F. Goodyear first appeared in print, it was more than doubtful whether this book would be acceptable in view of the strong competition with which it was faced in the recorder field.
- However, the quality of the first volume, combined with its excellent production and the ever-increasing popularity of the recorder, made this Tutor an almost immediate success, and the publishers had many requests for a second book.
- This now makes its appearance and I am pleased and proud to be associated with it. Musically it is a very sound book indeed, and, in assuming that the student of the recorder has now acquired a rudimentary knowledge of all aspects of music generally, the ground is thus prepared for the study of other wind instruments.
- The entire compass of the recorder is covered in these books, and, as in Book One, there are helpful revision exercises spaced throughout to give the teacher a better opportunity of measuring the pupil’s progress.
- I recommend this book highly, not only to every student who has used Book One, but to those teachers or students of the recorder who started with any other method. They will find Stephen F. Goodyear’s NEW RECORDER TUTOR Book Two of the greatest value as a second stage course of training.
